WHAT IS JAW TIP PROSTHESIS (IMPLANT)?
Inanimate materials placed in or on living tissues in the body are called implants. The prosthesis, which is replaced by missing or missing, deformed limbs and structures for various reasons, and functions to imitate the limb to which it is attached, is also an implant because it is attached to living tissue. Prostheses; They are named after the area where they are used, such as dental prosthesis, maxillofacial prosthesis, arm prosthesis, hair prosthesis. They are made of different materials such as titanium, gold, vinyl, acrylic, porcelain, rubber.
Jaw prostheses, on the other hand, are used to change the aesthetic appearance, to support weak structures, and to fill the congenital or subsequent cavities in the mouth and jaw area. These cavities can affect vital functions such as swallowing, eating, chewing and speaking, as well as disrupting the psychological structure of individuals in terms of appearance.
The fact that the tip of the nose and the tip of the chin are at the same level and in harmony with the face makes the face look proportional and beautiful and contributes to the formation of symmetry. The most common condition related to jaw structure disorders that impair symmetry and appearance; The chin is small and backward. Microgenesis is when only the tip of the lower jaw is small, without any abnormality in the position of the teeth or lower jaw. Considering that the chin image affects the appearance of the whole face, the negative effect of microgene on the profile will be understood more clearly. The most suitable solution methods for the microgene problem are chin filling and chin prosthesis. However, chin tip filling is a temporary application that needs to be repeated, and a permanent result cannot be obtained.
The surgical intervention performed in the form of implant placement in the area at the tip of the chin in order to provide an aesthetic appearance to the chin by eliminating the symmetry and harmony disorder caused by microgenesis is called Jaw Tip Prosthesis. Jaw tip prosthesis; It is one of the most preferred surgeries (profiloplasty) and chin enhancement interventions (genioplasty) to change the aesthetic appearance of the face. The results are permanent. After the intervention; Facial harmony improves, symmetry occurs, chin appearance becomes stronger and neck – jaw line becomes clear.
HOW IS JAW TIP PROSTHESIS (IMPLANT) MADE?
Jaw tip prosthesis; It is a painless intervention that can be applied to people who have passed the age limit of 17-18 and have completed their bone development and have no problems with their dental structure. Considering the patient’s complaints and demands, the intervention is planned by using two-dimensional or three-dimensional simulations and the possible image that will occur after the operation is evaluated.
Pregnant and nursing mothers, patients with high blood pressure, those who use blood thinners, those who have skin problems, and those who have undergone facial surgery before should definitely inform the doctor before the application.
Prostheses / implants used; It is produced from many different materials that are safe and flexible in different sizes and forms (plate, sphere, block). Mostly silicone and medpor prostheses are used:
Silicone Materials; Due to their slippery structure, they can be easily inserted and removed from small incisions. However, they can move from their places due to the same slipperiness, and sometimes they can cause melting in the bone.
Medpor Materials; They are Plastic Derivatives with Small Pores that Provide Biological Adaptation. Due to their porous structure, they are more difficult to insert and remove in small incisions. However, the probability of displacement is low due to the same rough structure. In addition, due to its biological compatibility, tissue growth is faster in it, and the risk of allergic reaction and infection is almost non-existent.
In the application of jaw tip prosthesis; The implant suitable for the intervention to be performed is placed and fixed in the lower lip, around the jawbone, with an incision made between the lower lip and the teeth or under the chin. The intervention is performed under general or local anesthesia and takes approximately 1-1.5 hours. In the first place, tape and chin bandage can be used to prevent the implant from slipping.
